UGA Cancels 2021 Spring Break

Archnews

Yesterday, the University of Georgia announced that there will be no spring break for the 2021 year.

This decision was made to "promote the health and safety of the University of Georgia and local communities" during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Instead of a spring break, the university is including three instructional breaks for the 2021 spring semester on February 17th, March 12th, and April 8th. The beginning of spring semester will also be delayed by two days.

Dr. Janet Frick, an associate professor at UGA's department of Psychology comments:

"So the idea that travel or a period of rest is going to automatically increase risk of transmission that doesn't necessarily seem to line up with what our experiences were this fall"

Dr. Frick also said that cancelation policies such as this should be in concert with other efforts that are proven to reduce the risk of transmission on campuses such as mandatory testing of students and employees.

Other universities who previously announced a spring break cancelation include Georgia Tech and Emory University
