Dr. Natalie Hull brought her husband of 48 years, Dr. Peter Hoffer to the StoryCorps Mobile Booth to talk about their relationship over the years, especially during the many they spent apart. Though they have differing perspectives of their nearly five decades of marriage, you will hear in this story that they know each other better than anyone else. For couples who decide to get married, planning a wedding can be one of the most exciting and most stressful parts of their relationship. Whether it’s a small ceremony or a large one, the love displayed at weddings is often accompanied by friends and family all gathered to celebrate. In Christina and William Fassbender’s case, their wedding was shaping up to be a major affair. But when tragedy struck their family, the Fassbenders realized that love is more important than ceremony.

Brian Smith and his wife Simone Moonsammy-Smith are the first to admit that on the outside, they do not look like a matched pair. Having two very different childhoods, they have had to grapple with their cultural differences in their personal lives and in public. In this conversation, you’ll hear about how they met, their first impressions of each other, and how their differences have brought them closer together. Robert and Yvina Fernandez also met when they were very young. Robert served in the National Guard and then the Army during the Cold War Era, and Yvina has been there through all of his deployments and reassignments. Over their six decades of marriage, Robert and Yvina have proven that they are two of the lucky few who get to spend their entire lives with their soulmates.
