“Can you spare 5 minutes of your time to take a quick survey? If you participate, you’ll be entered to win a $100 gift card.” Heard that one before? While we’re regularly bombarded with polls, they aid in capturing public opinion. These days conducting valid polls to accurately capture public opinion is becoming increasingly difficult with the rise of cell phones and internet use. In this segment, the late Dr. Barry Hollander, Professor of Journalism at Grady College, dives deep into how we can conduct reliable polls, how we arrive at our public opinions, and how to interpret poll data properly.
