Lott Resigns, Frist Heir Apparent
Sen. Trent Lott (R-MS) resigns as the Senate's Republican leader following a two-week ordeal over racially divisive remarks. Nearly a century ago, explorer Hanns Vischer undertook a grueling 1,500-mile journey by camel across the Sahara desert. He later said that he entered the desert like a fool, and left it nearly crushed. A modern-day explorer has recreated his trek.
