The second episode in August is the show’s Back to school Special for the 2022-2023 academic school
year. The show is a encouragement to all students, educators and everyone associated with the different
school systems in the listening area who are returning to school for Fall. This includes UGA students who
return to classes the next Wednesday, August 17. In addition to school resumption, the episode shares the
announcement by the Clarke County School Districts of Dr. Robbie Hooker as the sole finalist for the
position of Superintendent, to replace Dr. Xernona Thomas who is retiring this year. The episode provides
some information about the activities of the African Studies Institute including two exciting
announcements. First is the twelfth Africa Family Picnic scheduled for Saturday, September 3, 2022,
breaking the tradition of having the picnic on the last Saturday in August. The second is the news that the
US State Department Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) through the 2022-2023 Fulbright
Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) program is providing the funds to sustain four African
Fulbright FLTAs. The Episode announces the award of support to UGA for the support of four FLTAs
including; Nichesius Godwini (Tanzania for Swahili); Aishat Aina (Nigeria for Yoruba); Charity Fawe
(Nigeria for Hausa); and Lindokuhle Sikhonde (South Africa for Zulu). As always, the episode featured
selected enjoyable music from Africa and/or by Africans including featured tracks from the self-titled
album by Flavour and the collection, Best of World Music.
