Athens News Matters for April 26, 2023

Today on Athens News Matters, Athens-Clarke County Police Chief Jerry Saulters joins us to talk about gun violence and gang crime in Athens – the scope of the problem and how his department is addressing it.

Then, we talk to Western Judicial Circuit District Attorney Deborah Gonzalez about the seemingly growing number of gang crimes in Athens and how her office is working with law enforcement to prevent – and punish – gang crime and gun violence.

Finally, April is National Poetry Month, and WUGA’s David Oates, host of the show “Wordland,” joins us to talk about some of his influences and why poetry still matters in the age of social media.

Martin Matheny is WUGA's Program Director and a host and producer of our local news program 'Athens News Matters.'
