This year’s election will be closely watched, and not just at the national and state level. Many voters in Athens-Clarke and Oconee Counties will be paying close attention to another high profile race closer to home—the local District Attorney’s office. WUGA’s Emma Auer sat down with embattled incumbent Deborah Gonzalez to discuss her candidacy. We have reached out to her opponent and look forward to speaking with him in a future show.

CCSD’s first inter-abled handball team overcomes financial hurdles to play the game

Clarke County School District’s adapted handball program allows youth with disabilities the chance to play a competitive team sport. WUGA’s Alexzundra Tillman caught up with the Classic City Dawgs at a recent practice to get an inside look at one of Athens’ newest teams.

Note: The first home matches of the Classic City Dawgs have been postponed and will not be taking place today, Sept. 28. A new date has not yet been chosen.

Emma Auer is an award-winning reporter who joined WUGA as a full-time producer in 2024. She is also a graduate student in UGA's Romance Languages Department, studying French and Spanish. She covers the breadth of Northeast Georgia stories, from Athens City Hall to Winterville farmers' markets. Emma's work has also been heard on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
Alexia Ridley joined WUGA as Television and Radio News Anchor and Reporter in 2013. When WUGA TV concluded operations, she became the primary Reporter for WUGA Radio. Alexia came to Athens from Macon where she served as the News Director and show host for WGXA TV. She's a career journalist and Savannah native hailing from the University of Michigan. However, Alexia considers herself an honorary UGA DAWG!
