Hands Off! Protest in Athens draws hundreds

Thousands of people across the United States protested against President Trump’s administration last Saturday.

In Athens, hundreds of demonstrators gathered at City Hall to join the nationwide movement. WUGA’s Emma Auer has this report.

“Because of You” Concert connects UGA students to mental health support

Mental health issues have steadily risen among college students since the pandemic. One band director at the University of Georgia made mental wellbeing a key part of his instruction this semester.

Dr. Jack Eaddy is the Associate Director of Bands at UGA’s Hugh Hodgson School of Music. He will co-lead the “Because of You” Mental Health Concert this Wednesday, which will be held at 7 pm at the UGA Performing Arts Center. He sat down with WUGA’s Emma Auer to discuss what inspired the event and how he has woven mental health awareness into his instruction. Here’s that conversation.

Two decades of community and confidence building at Skate Park of Athens

As the Skate Park of Athens approaches its 20th birthday, its skaters and caretakers want others to know that belonging, self-confidence and community are at the heart of what they do.

Marigold Mingle offers opportunity to benefit food security in Athens-area

The Marigold Collective fights food insecurity in Winterville, Georgia. To benefit its several ongoing projects that connect people to fresh food, it will hold the Marigold Mingle next Saturday at 6 pm at the Marigold Auditorium for Arts and Culture.

Dr. Laura Ney is the UGA Extension Agent for Athens-Clarke County and is the Marigold Collective’s Board Chair. Andrea Demarcus is a singer and bass player for the band Cicada Rhythm, which will headline the event. They sat down with WUGA’s Emma Auer to discuss what attendees can expect. Here’s that conversation.

Alexia Ridley joined WUGA as Television and Radio News Anchor and Reporter in 2013. When WUGA TV concluded operations, she became the primary Reporter for WUGA Radio. Alexia came to Athens from Macon where she served as the News Director and show host for WGXA TV. She's a career journalist and Savannah native hailing from the University of Michigan. However, Alexia considers herself an honorary UGA DAWG!
