Edmonia Lewis

Born in Greenbush, New York, around 1844 as a free person of African American and Ojibwe descent, Edmonia Lewis became an internationally prominent sculptor. The Georgia Museum of Art has one of her small “Minnehaha” sculptures and is organizing a traveling exhibition of her work.
