This April, the museum will present its Larry D. and Brenda A. Thompson Award to the artist Lou Stovall, whose work is on display in the exhibition "Lou Stovall: Of the Land," through May 29. The Thompson Award recognizes the achievement of African American artists who have made significant contributions in the visual arts. Known as a print maker, Stovall was actually born in Athens, Georgia, where his father worked as a cook on the UGA campus during the Depression era.
