Museum Passes at the Library

Ever wished that you could get free tickets to museums that charge admission? The Athens Regional Library Service offers park and museum passes for checkout, giving people free admission to cultural attractions around the state. Since two thousand five, the Georgia Public Library Service has established these statewide and regional partnerships, saving Georgians millions of dollars and providing hundreds of hours of free programming in libraries.

Generally, passes can be checked out for a week and may be borrowed once every six months per household. Passes can get your family of four into museums including the Atlanta History Center, the Breman Jewish Heritage Museum, the Center for Puppetry Arts and the Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University, all in Atlanta; the Chattahoochee Nature Center and the Computer Museum of America, both in Roswell, the Go Fish Education Center in Perry; the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, Macon Museum of Arts and Sciences and Tubman Museum, all in Macon. In addition to museums, the library checks out passes for Zoo Atlanta, the Alliance Theatre, Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites, and the Shakespeare Tavern. If a group of four uses all 12 Experience Passes, they would save one thousand ninety-seven dollars on admissions, tickets, and parking.

Experience Passes are popular and cannot be placed on hold. Some are seasonal, so check with your local library for details and availability. You can search the PINES catalog at GApines.org to find the nearest available pass to you.
