I don't have demographic stats in front of me, but my gut tells me there's overlap between WUGA listeners, music lovers and cat people. Cheetah, by the Czech-American composer Karel Husa is on a concert Thursday, November 16 at Hodgson Concert Hall by the UGA Wind Ensemble and conductor Nicholas Enrico Williams. The composer said this piece is “a portrait of a magnificent wild animal, now an endangered species - its colors, movements, power, speed.”
The piece that gives the concert its name is Pounce by young Australian composer Holly Harrison. She was inspired by her kitten, a trip to a wild cat conservancy and her champion local rugby team, the Panthers. In this music she captures the swagger familiar to anyone with a frisky feline companion.
Tickets for Pounce by the UGA Wind Ensemble are available here or by calling the box office at 706 542 4400. And don't worry, dog lovers — the concert ends with a march by Camille Saint-Saens. He was one of us.
