Although Athens-Clarke County celebrated the 250th anniversary of America on June 27th, the surrounding counties offer several options to continue celebrating during the July 4th weekend.

Oconee Celebrates American turning 250
July 3rd
8am - 5k, 3pm - festival
Join Oconee County for their signature America 250 celebration at Thomas Farm for a full day of activities. There will be a 5k at 8am, followed by a festival at 3pm with food vendors, live history reenactments, family-friendly activities and more! Guardians of the Jukebox will play live starting at 6:45pm leading into a fantastic drone show. Bring your own lawn chairs or blankets!

Classic City Band Independence Day Concert
July 3rd
4:30pm-6:00pm
The Classic City Band will be performing at the East Jackson Park, no tickets required. Georgia's oldest continuously operating community band is expected to put on a great show.

City of Nicholson 250th Independence Day Celebration
July 3rd

For those close to Nicholson, Ga, there will be a fireworks festival at 225 Lakeview Drive. All are welcome and are encouraged to bring their patriotic spirit.

Lake Oconee July 4th boat parade returns

Join in on the Morgan County tradition, and see their 7th annual Lake Oconee Fourth of July Boat Parade. The parade will begin at the Morgan County portion of the Lake and will make a loop through the water for spectators.

Fourth of July Celebration in Comer, Ga
July 4th

Celebrate the 4th of July at Watson Mill Bridge State Park for family friendly fun, located 30 mins from downtown Athens. There will be classic games like tug-of-war, sack races, watermelon eating contest, cornhole, and horseshoes.

City of Winder to host Celebrate America with POP 2000 Tour
July 4th
3pm -9:30 pm
This free event at the Jug Tavern will commence with the National Anthem in celebration of veterans and active military members. Chris Kirkpatrick of *NSYNC is scheduled to be in attendance to host the POP 2000 tour which celebrates some of the biggest hits of the early 2000s. The celebration will conclude with a fireworks show at 9:30pm

Be mindful that temperatures are expected to be in the high 90 to 100 degrees, with the heat index remaining in the 100s. The National Weather Service advises individuals to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and to check up on relatives and neighbors.
