Athens-Clarke County Municipal Court Judge to Resign Friday

The Athens-Clarke County Municipal Court Judge and Administrative Hearing Officer, Marcy Jolles, will conclude her service on March 28th.

Judge Jolles initially submitted her resignation letter to Mayor Kelly Girtz on January 29th, indicating her intention to resign as Municipal Court Judge and Administrative Hearing Officer.

Jolles later attempted to modify her resignation date, first on February 7th stating her desire to continue working until the end of her term, and on March 18th counsel confirmed to modify her resignation date to June 30th. Her resignation modification was then resolved by the Mayor and Commission, and she will now serve until Friday.

Human Resources staff will begin the recruitment process for her replacement as soon as possible. A recent resolution authorized Human Resources staff along with Mayor Kelly Gritz to secure one or more attorneys to fulfill duties as an interim of either Municipal Court Judge or Administrative Hearing Officer or both until a permanent replacement is appointed. Jolles has served in the Athens-Clarke County judicial system since 2023, overseeing municipal court proceedings and administrative hearings.
