Georgia Gas Prices are Dropping, Athens Prices Among Highest in State

Gas prices are continuing to drop in Georgia. Average prices have fallen nearly four cents in the past week to $2.63 according to Gas Buddy’s daily survey of more than 5,883 gas outlets in the state. Including the change in gas prices in Georgia during the past week, prices yesterday were 28.4 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 43.2 cents per gallon higher than a month ago.

Triple A Auto Club reports Gas prices are on a steep slide after reaching 3-year highs due to Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Prices surged when Harvey struck refineries along the nation's gulf coast. Then remained elevated as demand spiked in the southeastern U.S. following Hurricane Irma. Now supply and demand levels are returning to normal, and prices are on the decline. The most expensive gas price averages in Georgia are in Atlanta ($2.72), Athens ($2.70), and Valdosta ($2.65)

The least expensive gas price averages in Georgia are in Augusta-Aiken ($2.57), Macon ($2.58), and Columbus ($2.58)
