ACHF Hosts Free Lecture on Mid-Century Modern Architecture

Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation

The Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation is holding a free lecture Tuesday evening on mid-century modern architecture. It’s part of the organization’s countdown to the October 7th Tour of Home in Athens. Kendell Turner is the tour coordinator for the event.  She says there are more of those types of homes in the area than most residents realize. She encourages anyone interested in next month’s tour, or who just wants to know more about the mid-century modern style to attend.

“That’s why I think it’s really important to go to the talk, because I think people will learn a great deal before they go on the tour and that will give them a better understanding,” according to Turner.

The event features a diverse trio of speakers.

“Wade Brown, who is head of the Historic Preservation Department and teaches at UGA; and we’re going to have Joe Smith who is a local architect, and then we’re bringing up Robin Hill who is a renown photographer. He is going to be showing his photographs.”

Turner says the Miami-based Hill is known internationally.

“He’s been published in magazines like Elle, and Architectural Digest and Conde Nast. You name them, he’s been in them.”

The lecture is free and open to the public. It takes place at UGA’s College of Environment and Design from 6:30 to 8:30 Tuesday night.
