Winter Weather Advisory for Athens, Surrounding Area

A winter weather advisory is in effect until 10 am Saturday for much of north and central Georgia including Clarke, Oconee and Madison Counties. The National Weather Service says a wintry mix of precipitation or light snow could cause slippery road conditions. Accumulations of up to one inch are expected.  Forecasters warn road conditions are expected to deteriorate through the day and into the evening. Be prepared for reduced visibilities at times.

A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for the area, as well as Barrow, Jackson, and Oglethorpe Counties. That means the rain snow mix will gradually transition to snow in parts of the area.

Plan on slippery road conditions. A few slick spots could develop on area roadways, especially on bridges and overpasses. Road conditions are expected to deteriorate through the day and into the evening. Be prepared for reduced visibilities at times. Wintry precipitation can be expected Today through Tonight. The rain snow mix will gradually transition to all snow across North and portions of west central GA. Saturday morning, any residual moisture on road surfaces could produce black ice, creating hazardous travel conditions. No hazardous weather expected Saturday afternoon through Thursday.
