Hackathon at The Hatch Makerspace in Athens

The Hatch

The Hatch Athens makerspace is holding a Hackathon this evening. The four-hour making event allows participants to make anything they’d like. Erica Parson is the facility’s Executive Director and Founder.

“It’s also our Christmas party, we do a maker, white elephant type of deal,” Parson said. “We don’t buy each other presents specifically, but we like to bring something fun or some cool making thing and wrap it anonymously, and then we have a white elephant gift exchange at the end.”

The event is free with snacks and drinks provided. Kids are welcome. Starts at 5 and goes until 10 pm, but projects will be judged at 9 pm.

It’s a no-pressure opportunity to observe the facility and activities.

The Hatch is in the midst of its 12 days of Christmas…which features 12 workshops with a different one every day.

“We tried to do things that could be drop-ins, some of them are free, but also throwing in some more skilled workshops and classes, like one of our big ones is this coming Saturday for the opening of the new Star Wars movie. We’re doing a 3-D printing class where you can come learn how to design for 3-D printing, design your own light saber, and then if you so choose, we can also print it for you.”
