Montez Carter Named President/CEO St. Mary's Healthcare System

St. Mary's Health Care System

St. Mary’s healthcare System has a new leader. Montez Carter, President of St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens and former President of St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro, has been named President and CEO of St. Mary’s Healthcare System, effective Tuesday.

Carter becomes the fourth lay administrator since the Missionary Sisters turned over administrative duties to lay professionals in 1966. Carter has been acting President and CEO since Don McKenna announced in November that he would be leaving for the top post at a hospital in Jupiter, Florida.

St. Mary’s is part of the nationwide Trinity Health ministry. It has hospitals in Athens, Greensboro, and Lavonia. The system also includes primary care practices, a regional home health care/hospice services agency, a retirement community, and several outpatient facilities.
