WalletHub Ranks Georgia as One of the Best States for Racial Progress

WalletHub

Georgia is one of the best states when it comes to Racial Progress. That's according to the personal finance website WalletHub.

MLK Day was Monday, and WalletHub claims and 46 percent of U.S. voters expect Donald Trump's presidential victory to result in worse race relations. The website conducted an analysis of 2017's States with the Most Racial Progress. Jill Gonzalez says analysts measured the gaps between blacks and whites in 16 areas. Indicators of equality studied included median annual income, standardized test scores, and voter turnout.

“Georgia really has some of the smallest gaps in the country when it comes white and blacks and median household income, unemployment rate, home ownership rate, poverty and business ownership rates,” according to Gonzalez.

Maine ranked worst in the nation. Gonzalez says the size of the minority population didn't necessarily affect racial progress. She says Georgia was one of the most racially progressive states from data gathered from 1970 to 2015.
