Georgia Museum of Art Exhibition and Family Day

Blum Collection

A new exhibition opening focusing on Opera Posters opens Saturday at the Georgia Museum of Art. The display focuses on works from France during the 19th century. The Belle Epoque opera posters in this exhibition were intended to draw an audience into the opera house with a "taste" of what would be seen and heard there. Hillary Brown Director of Communications Georgia Museum of Art

She says the posters are both ads and art.

“This show is gorgeous, “Brown says. “These things are big, they’re colorful, they’re beautiful lithographs and they are interesting to see in the way they sort of suggest the story of the various operas. They’re really trying to capture about it and draw you in off the street.”

Music programming Family Day in conjunction with the exhibit from 10 am until noon. Children will have a chance to create their own artwork. The events are free. The exhibition “Opera in Print: Fin-de-siècle Posters from the Blum Collection,” runs through April 22.
