Gubernatorial Candidate Stacey Abrams to Visit Athens

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams will visit Athens tomorrow to discuss her new book “Minority Leader: How to Lead from the Outside and Make Real Change."

The event will be held at 6 PM at the 40 Watt Club in collaboration with Avid Bookshop.

Abrams is the former House minority leader for the Georgia General Assembly and State Representative for the 89th House District.

The book was released in April and will cover her experience as a black woman in government. Her website says that the book is “for outsiders who seek to become the ones in charge.”

Abrams beat out opponent Stacey Evans in the Democratic primary two weeks ago, becoming the first female candidate nominated by either major party for Georgia governor.

A runoff between Republican candidates Casey Cagle and Brian Kemp will take place on July 24 and decide Abrams’ opponent in November’s general election.

Tickets to the event are $5 and available through the 40 Watt’s website.
