Carter Center Fellowships for Mental Health Reporting

The Carter Center

The Carter Center announced today the eight recipients of the 2018-2019 Rosalynn Carter Fellowships for Mental Health Journalism.

Recipients include reporters from the AJC, LA Times, the Root, and more.

The program was founded to increase accurate reporting on mental health issues and combat sensationalized news coverage and misconceptions that can discourage people from seeking treatment.

Carter Center fellows receive intensive training from leading mental health and journalism experts and a $10,000 stipend to report on a mental health topic of their choice.

This is the fellowship’s 22nd year, with 197 journalists who have been awarded this fellowship to date.

The initiative is part of the Carter Center's Mental Health Program, which aims to improve access to mental health care internationally and reduce discrimination against people with mental illnesses.

An announcement of the fellowships to journalists from outside the U.S. will be made in August.
