The GBI Crime Lab has released its 2018 Drug Trends Data. This culmination of data is attributed to law enforcement seizures tested by the Crime Lab, the facility does not test every item submitted. The agency’s Forensic Chemistry section shows the top six drugs tested in Georgia are Methamphetamine, cocaine, alprazolam, or generic Xanax, oxycodone heroin, and hydrocodone.
The top 5 counties with the highest use of opioids in Georgia are Cobb, Fulton, Gwinnett, DeKalb, and Chatham. Richmond County was the 5th highest in 2017.
The most seized opioids are oxycodone, heroine, hydrocodone and fentanyl/analogs. A total of 11 different variations of fentanyl were seized by law enforcement and tested by the GBI Crime Lab. The data was collected May 22 and the numbers are subject to change. Nearly four thousand drug cases were submitted to the agencies.
