“We don’t want people dying in the streets, but if you don’t have adequate health care that kind of thing can happen,”

Strong words from Mayor Nancy Denson as she attended a legislator’s reception at the Athens Neighborhood Health Center Thursday evening.

“They bring health care to people that literally not have any other way to get it.”

National Health Care Center week is drawing to a close, but not before the Athens Neighborhood Health Center is being recognized for the services the facility provides for the public.

“The Athens Neighborhood Health Center received the Health Center Quality Leader Certificate of Achievement for being among the top 30 percent of all HRSA-supported health centers in overall clinical outcomes in 2017.”

That’s according to Lisa Mariani, the Regional Administrator for the Health Resources and Services Administration, or HRSA.

The agency is also providing the center with a $74,000 award.

10th district Congressman Jody Hice wanted to show his support for the center which provides the type of services his family was able to rely on.

“My wife and I utilized health centers frequently when our children were growing up.,” according to Hice. “I believe in them and I here to support them and be an advocate for them in Washington.”

Jennifer Richardson is head of Marketing and Outreach at the center, she says the center is open to the entire community.

“Our mission is to make sure everyone has access to health care.”

Nationally, health centers treat 27 million patients each year.
