AthFest Educates Seeking Board Member

AthFest Educates

An Athens nonprofit is accepting applications for a qualified board member.

The AthFest Educates Board of Directors is seeking a member to fill the 2019-2022 term. Michelle Davis is Chair of the organization’s Governance Committee. She tells us what the nonprofit is looking for in a candidate.

“First and foremost, we’re looking for someone who believes in our mission,” Davis said. “Someone who is passionate about creating opportunities for young people to experience music and the arts.”

There are some practical considerations as well.

“Committed to a three-year term, someone with a little bit of experience who can hit the ground running, who may be served on another nonprofit board, or has served an executive-level position, who maybe has experience working in public education or serving underprivileged youth.”

The board is the organization’s decision-making body; Davis says it provides a variety of options when it comes to serving.

“We are looking at the big picture issues in terms of budget and goals, and then we have several committees that branch off into specific areas of interest. There’s a committee that focuses just on the grants that we give to local schools, three’s a committee dedicated to our music festival that happens every summer, a committee for fundraising.”

Visit www.athfesteducates.org. for more information.

Those interested are asked to send a resume and Statement of Interest to Michelle Davis at governance@athfesteducates.org  by Sept. 6, 2018

To date, the organization has given more than $330,000 in grants.
