Stacey Abrams Holds 'Meet and Greet with Young Voters' in Athens

Athenians turned out in droves for Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams Thursday evening.

More than 350 people packed into Hendershot’s for Abrams Thursday visit; with countless others outside listening through open doors and windows.

The Meet and Greet with Young Voters actually drew attendees of all ages and backgrounds. Abrams urged crowd to vote. She also referenced the Georgia voters with pending registrations and accused her Republican opponent, Secretary of State Brian Kemp of voter suppression.

“We’ve got a little bit of work to do in 26 days, because you’ve just seen that he’s willing to stop 53,000 people from voting,” Abrams said. “And they’re going to whisper to each other that it’s not real, that she’s not going to transform he electorate, that we’re not going to have new people voting, that young people don’t vote, that black people don’t vote, that brown people don’t vote, that white people aren’t going to vote for a black woman, but we are going to prove them wrong.”

Athens Mayor-Elect Kelly Girtz addressed the crowd ahead of Abrams. He also urged those in attendance to get out the vote and to spread the message.
