Clayton Street Improvement Project to Present Plans, Begin Surveying

Athens-Clarke County Public Information Office

Athens-Clarke County Government’s TSPLOST staff will present the East Clayton Street Improvement Project streetscape design to the Mayor and Commission at the Work Session on Thursday, Jan. 17, according to an ACC Public Information Office press release.

Pre-digging at the planned sites of five traffic signal poles as part of the project will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 22 and continue through Jan. 24. Once dug, the holes will be surveyed and backfilled with temporary asphalt.

The poles will be located near the intersections of N. Lumpkin Street, College Avenue, N. Jackson Street and N. Thomas Street. Some lanes and sidewalks will be restricted during construction and all businesses will remain open.

The project will reduce the number of traffic signal poles currently in the area by half and ease pedestrian traffic.

The Work Session where the streetscape design will be proposed is in the City Hall Commissioner Chamber at 5:30 p.m. The session will be televised live on ACTV Cable Channel 180 and streamed live online.
