Child Advocates to go to Annual CASA Day in Atlanta

Around seven Athens-Oconee child advocates plan to attend CASA Day, an annual event where CASA volunteers, board members and staff have the opportunity to meet with members of the Georgia Legislature to share concerns about children in foster care who have experienced neglect or abuse, and thank them for their support.

The event is hosted by Georgia Court Appointed Special Advocates Inc., and is located at the State Capitol in Atlanta.

Athens-Oconee CASA is an affiliate of Georgia CASA, a nonprofit organization with 47 community-based affiliates. The CASA organization supports CASA volunteers, who are citizens in your community who offer individualized attention and best-interests advocacy for children in foster care.

Last year, over 2,700 CASA volunteers in Georgia served 11,460 children who have experienced abuse or neglect. Locally, 84 CASA volunteers served 202 children in Athens and Oconee counties.
