tripadvisor.com

On Tuesday, February 12, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department received a call from a hotel employee on to 2044 S. Milledge Ave about a suspicious package left behind in the room.

After responding to InTown Suites, police investigated and determined that the package was deemed a credible threat. They evacuated the hotel and contacted the University of Georgia Police Department’s Bomb Disposal Unit (UGAPD BDU).

UGAPD BDU safely removed multiple devices and determined that they were modified commercial fireworks.

The ACCPD is investigating the incident, and they have released a statement reminding the public that while commercial fireworks are legal, modifying them may be dangerous and illegal.
