Sheriff's Posse Team Wins 2019 Athens Area Black History Bowl

The Clarke County Sheriff's Office Sheriff’s Posse Team won first place in the 2019 Athens Area Black History Bowl, an event hosted each year by the Athens Area Black History Bowl Committee.

Five teams competed in preliminary and championship rounds, which was comprised of 400 questions focusing on black history. The teams spent time studying for the competition in the weeks leading up to the competition.

The first-place team won a prize of $1,500.

Team Members from the winning team are all students at Clarke Central High School, and include Gimena Gutierrez, Kristine Huaman, Oscar Robles, Jasani Byrd, Angelique Black-Smith.

The Sheriff’s Posse team coaches and advisors are Sgt. Usha Fleming and Cpl. Torin Jackson, the coordinator is Captain Jessica Goings, and they are under under the direction and support of Sheriff Ira Edwards, Jr.
