ACCPD on Recent Murder Arrests

ACCPD

The Athens-Clarke County Police is ratcheting up its effort to arrest violent criminals.

According to a media release from the department, officers and detectives have made significant arrests in several murder cases.

Geof Gilland is the Public Information Officer for the department.

“We’re just proud of our detectives and happy that these violent offenders are off the streets,” Gilland said.

In the most recent incident, federal authorities assisted in the arrest of 51-year old Marcel Oliver, who is wanted for Murder and Home invasion by the Boston Police Department. He was arrested Thursday after the ACCPD received information from the U.S. Marshals service that Oliver was in Athens.

In another case Marquavious Knox was arrested for the Murder of Jamelle Brightwell on April 2nd.

“We were able to solve a homicide very quickly, it took less than 12 hours from the homicide to the arrest of that individual [Knox].

And several arrests were made in the murders of Joshua Jackson and Derrick Ruff; who went missing in mid-December of 2018. Detectives located the men on March 17th.

“We did hope that we would be able to locate these men alive, however that was not the case.”

The bodies of Jackson and Ruff were discovered in a storage unit in Gwinnett County.

Anyone with information about violent crime in the community is asked to call the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 706-705-4775. Tipsters can receive up to $1,000 in reward money for providing information leading to the arrest of violent criminals.
