UGA Working to Increase Diversity Through New Approaches to Diversity and Inclusion Funds

Wednesday was the deadline to submit proposals for a second round of University of Georgia grants aimed at increasing diversity.

The New Approaches to Diversity and Inclusion program provides funding for recruiting and retaining underserved, underrepresented, and first-generation students.

UGA President Jere Morehead provided $300,000 in January 2018 for grants ranging from $10,000 to $25,000 for the development or adoption of new projects around campus.

Programs receiving money included Gear Up 4 High School; which educated eighth graders in Clarke County about the college admissions process and scholarship opportunities; workshops and internships at the Tifton Veterinary Diagnostic and Investigational Laboratory; and the RISE Scholars Program, a year-long effort to assist in the transition from high school to college. It also helps in the retention, progress and graduation rates for participants.
