The demolition of Legion Pool got underway on Thursday. The University System of Georgia approved the plan in January.

While last weekend brought only threats of winter danger, this weekend, Athenians got to enjoy a bonefide snow day. On the campus of the University of Georgia, students were making the most of the winter weather.

On Monday night a public hearing was held to address the University of Georgia’s plans to redevelop Legion Pool and Legion Field.

In September, the university announced its plans to remove the pool and replace it with a green space, an amphitheater and parking.

The University of Georgia has created a scholarship initiative to recruit students and support them by reducing the amount of student loan debt.

UGA ranks No. 1 for short-term study abroad participation and fifth overall, according to the 2025 Open Doors Report. The university sent over 3,000 students abroad this past academic year.

The University of Georgia’s School of Medicine is projected to enroll its first class of students in the fall 2026 semester, with long-standing corporate partnerships helping fund the construction of the $100 million Medical Education and Research Building.
