Athens-Clarke Leisure Services Department Seeks Community Input

ACC Government

Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services wants feedback from the community. The department wants input from all segments of the population for its Community Needs Assessment.

Mel Davis is the Assistant Director with the department. She says the assessment is part of the ACC Leisure Services 2030 pproject, which is the 10-year plan for the future of the department.

“If we’re sitting and just having a meeting and expecting people to come to us, they may not have the time, they may not make it there,” according to Davis.

“So we’re reaching out to the community, reaching out to community leaders, churches, going to different community events to try to bring that opportunity to people.”

Leisure Services is working with the Carl Vinson Institute and the survey is currently available online.

“So if you go to their website, it’s survey.uga.edu/leisureservices.That’s the survey itself, but we’ve also developed as part of this community outreach, a new web presence called Leisure Services Listens.”

Davis says the document will shape the future of Athens parks, programs and facilities.

Athenians can also view projects and timelines. Projects include 2030, Firefly Bridge over Trail Creek, master plan projects, playground projects, etc.

The survey will be open until midnight on Sunday, July 14, 2019. It’s available in English and Spanish. Resident can also use public computers at east Athens Community Center, Lay park, and Rocksprings Park.
