Piedmont Athens Seeks Nominations for J.W. Fanning Humanitarian Award

Piedmont Regional Hospital

Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital is currently seeking nominations from the community for this year’s J.W. Fanning Humanitarian of the Year Award.

This year’s award is marking two milestones. Piedmont Athens Regional is celebrating its centennial and it’s the 30th anniversary of the J.W. Fanning Humanitarian of the Year Award. Tammy Gilland is the executive director of the Piedmont Athens Regional Foundation.

“The criteria is [are] that they have to have made significant contributions to Piedmont Athens Regional through time, their interest and commitment; and they have to have made contributions as a volunteer in worthwhile community service that has improved the health, welfare and quality of life for our local residents; and they have to exemplify high personal standards in his or her life.”

Nominations are due by Friday, August 9th.

For more information, contact Tammy Gilland or visit www.piedmont.org.

Last year’s J.W. Fanning Humanitarian of the Year Award was presented to Oconee County resident Tom Cooney, Ph.D., for his extensive years of volunteer service to Piedmont Athens Regional’s Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support.

The award is named in honor of J.W. Fanning, who was the University of Georgia’s first Vice President for Services and dedicated his life to community service in Georgia.
