Chalfont Drive Officer-Involved Shooting Body Cam Footage Released

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department has released the body camera footage from the October 14th Officer-involved shooting that left an Athens woman dead.

According to the department, at approximately 10:15 am on October 14th Senior Police Officer Lamar Glenn responded to a call of a suspicious person in the 100 block of Chalfont Drive.

The caller stated the woman was armed with a gun and a knife. The video shows the officer arriving and 54-year old Bonny Thomas appears to be waving him down.

Thomas has a butcher knife in her hand and the other concealed under her shirt. Glenn moves to the back of his vehicle while commanding her to drop the knife.

Thomas ignores the commands and continues to walk toward the officer with the knife raised above her head. She can be heard saying “I have a gun and a knife.” Thomas runs toward Officer Glenn with the knife raised in a threatening manner. He fires one shot, hitting her in the torso.

According to a release from the department, once additional officers arrived, they perform first aid on Thomas until EMS arrived. Thomas was taken to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

The GBI is investigating the shooting.

Officer Glenn, a 29-year veteran with the department, was placed on administrative leave with pay, according to ACCPD policy. This is the fifth shooting at the department this year.
