The Athens-Clarke County Police Department is releasing the body camera footage from the October 26th officer-involved shooting on Royale Road this afternoon.
According to an earlier media release from eh department, 45-year old Nan Zhao of Athens was threatening to shoot a neighbor. When officers arrived and tried to question Zhao, he fired several shots at them. They returned fire, striking Zhao who later died at an area hospital.
The officers involved are Sgt. Matt Smith, who has been with the department for 14 years and Officer Paul Harris, who has been with the department for seven months.
The ACCPD is holding a media conference at 1:30 to release the footage. It will also be streamed live on the ACCPD’s Facebook page.
