CCSD Clarifies Status of Superintendent Demond Means

The Clarke County School District issued a letter to clarify Superintendent Demond Means’ status in the wake of comments from Dr. Means after a tense meeting of the Clarke County School Board Thursday night.

It states: Dr. Demond means remains under contract and continues to carry out his duties as Superintendent of the Clarke County School District, as referenced by board policy “CE – School Superintendent.”

According to Flagpole Magazine, Board members voted to add a phrase by member Tawana Mattox to a letter to the Professional Standards Commission that while Means should be cleared by the PSC, “We [the board] will determine the best measures for addressing these concerns.”

Means was quoted as saying “It seems you don’t want me as superintendent, and we need to have a discussion about how I leave.”

The discussion was in response to the June 14th letter drafted by the board to the PSC regarding an ethics complaint filed against the superintendent.  Three possible violations were mentioned before the board decided there was no need for further PSC involvement in the PSC complaint.
