ACCPD Investigating Fatal Collision

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department is investigating a fatal car accident involving a pedestrian on West Broad Street Tuesday night. According to a department release, 78-year old Carl Freeman of Greensboro, GA was killed after he was struck by a vehicle being driven by 27-year old Bobby Jack Worley from Winder.

When officers arrived on the scene in front of the Cadence Bank, they found Freeman deceased in the roadway.

Investigators believe he was walking northbound across West Broad Street from the FedEx store and had made it across six lanes of traffic before being stuck by Worley’s Ford Ranger.

Mr. Freeman suffered a fatal injury and died on scene. It was raining at the time of the collision, and the scene was not well lit.

This crash is under further investigation. None of the involved parties are affiliated with UGA. This is the third fatal crash in 2020.
