St. Mary's Hospital Implements New Limits on Visitors

St. Mary’s Hospital is urging the community to take precautions against COVID-19. Public Relations Manager Mark Ralston says the facility is changing procedures and practices to keep hospital personnel and others safe.

“We are implementing the latest recommendation and guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and prevention and the Georgia Department of Public Health, to provide the maximum level of protection possible for our patients, our providers and our colleagues,” Ralston said.

One area includes placing strict limitations on visitors.

“One of the big things we’re doing right now is we’re working on new restrictions for visitation policies. We will be restriction visitors to only those patients who are receiving end-of-life care, or those with cognitive deficits, or have other special needs.”

Ralston says he know the new limitations will be challenging for patients and their friends and relatives.

“Now we know this is difficult on people, when your family member is in the hospital, you want to be there with them but we really need to ensure that we are protecting our staff and patients to the best level possible.”

St. Mary’s joins Athens Piedmont Regional and hospitals around the state and nation in implementing new guidelines.
