The Ark in Athens wants area residents to know about the services the organization provides. Program Coordinator Terrell Moore says the financial headships facing many during the COVID-19 closings is exactly what the nonprofit is there for.

“Rent and utilities which is what The Ark has been doing really well in Athens for 30 years in Athens, so we are uniquely positioned to help people who possibly have never been confronted with this kind of situation,” according to Moore.

In order to help applicants and practice social distancing, the ARK has made the process of getting help easier.

“On our website we have a form for folks to fill out that’s very detailed about what their situation is and what documentation they need to get together and how to get it to us.”

Moore says organizations are combining efforts whenever possible. The number of calls has increased to 10 to 15 new calls daily compared to 4 to 6 calls just a few weeks ago. Moore says the best way to help The Ark is through financial contributions.

“The best way to help right now is, if at all possible, to donate to The Ark. We have unprecedented demand for our services right now. Fundraising right now, obviously is huge for all the local organizations.”
