COVID-19 Testing for Clarke County Sheriff's Office Employees and Jail Inmates

Clarke County Sheriff Ira Edwards is announcing COVID-19 testing for Sheriff’s Office employees and inmates at the Athens-Clarke County Jail on Friday, May 15th. According to a release from the sheriff’s office, no coronavirus infections have been reported at the office or the jail.

The tests are a precautionary measure to ensure operations are conducted safety at the facility. The testing is voluntary and the result will be made public once all results are in. Information released will only include the number of tests taken and whether they were positive or negative.

Special housing arrangements will be made for any inmate testing positive.

The Georgia Army National Guard will conduct the testing.
