Georgia Reports Lower COVID-19 Numbers

Curtis Compton/Atlanta Journal-Constitution via AP

COVID-19 numbers saw comparatively low increases today.

The Georgia Department of Public Health reported more than 2,890 new cases and 11 new deaths. This brings total cases to more than 170,000 and deaths to 3,509. 47 people have been hospitalized due to the virus.

As of the 26th, the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency reports that half of the state’s total ER beds are now in use, 84% of critical care beds are occupied, and 75% of general inpatient beds are also occupied. It should be noted that bed occupancy is not solely due to Covid-19, but also a variety of afflictions and injuries. There remains a 57% availability for ventilators.

According to the health department's COVID-19 Daily Status Report, Athens is reporting 1,475 confirmed cases and 15 deaths. Barrow County has 940 cases and 32 deaths. Jackson County has 793 cases, 13 deaths. Madison County has 277 cases with four deaths. Oconee County is reporting 346 cases and 15 deaths. While Oglethorpe County has 164 cases and seven deaths.
