COVID-19 Cases Once Again on the Rise in Georgia

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Covid-19 cases and deaths in Georgia have returned to higher rates today. The Georgia Department of Public Health reported more than 4,200 new cases and 54 new deaths. This brings total cases to more than 175,000 and deaths to 3,563. 406 people have been hospitalized due to the virus.

As of the 27th, the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency reports that more than half of the state’s total ER beds are now in use, 84% of critical care beds are occupied, and 75% of general inpatient beds are also occupied. It should be noted that bed occupancy is not solely due to Covid-19, but also a variety of afflictions and injuries. There remains a 56% availability for ventilators.

According to the state health department, Clarke County is reporting 1,507 confirmed cases, with 491 of those coming the last two weeks. The number of deaths has remained steady for several weeks now, at 15. Barrow County has 979 cases and 32 deaths. Jackson County has 819 cases, 13 deaths, Madison County 283 cases with four deaths, Oconee County is reporting 360 cases and 15 deaths, while Oglethorpe has 170 cases and seven deaths.
