COVID-19 Deaths Spike in Georgia Tuesday

137 people have died from Coronavirus today according to a report from the state health department. This is one of the most substantial spikes in deaths in the last two months, and it has brought the total fatalities to 4,351 in Georgia. There were also more than 3,600 new cases reported in Georgia, which makes the new total more than 222,000.  355 hospitalizations also have occurred today.

As of August 10th, the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency reports that 56% of the state’s total ER beds are now in use, 85% of critical care beds are occupied, and 77% of general inpatient beds are also occupied. It should be noted that bed occupancy is not solely due to Covid-19, but also a variety of afflictions and injuries. 56% of adult ventilators remain available.

According to the state health department, Clarke currently has had 2117 total cases and 19 total deaths. Barrow county has 1323 cases and 32 deaths. Jackson County has 1098 cases, 17 deaths. Madison County has 417 cases with six deaths, Oconee County is reporting 450 cases and 15 deaths, while Oglethorpe has 226 cases  and seven deaths.
