Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Total Covid-19 reached a tragic milestone today. 42 people have died due to the virus, bringing the total to now more than 4,000. The Georgia Department of Public also Health reports that there are over 3,200 confirmed new cases today, bringing the total case number to over 204,000. There have also been 214 new hospitalizations from the virus

As of August 5th, the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency reports that more than half of the state’s total ER beds are now in use, 75% of critical care beds are occupied, and 82% of general inpatient beds are also occupied. It should be noted that bed occupancy is not solely due to Covid-19, but also a variety of afflictions and injuries. There remains a 56% availability for ventilators.

According to the state health department, Clarke County is reporting 1,894 confirmed cases and 18 deaths. Barrow County has 1214 cases and 32 deaths. Jackson County has 1170 cases, 13 deaths. Madison County has 371 cases with five deaths, Oconee County is reporting 418 cases and 15 deaths, while Oglethorpe has 201 cases and seven deaths.

Georgia now has more than twice the number of cases of Alabama and nearly twice the deaths. Our state also has almost double the cases in Tennessee and nearly four times the deaths. Florida’s rates are still much higher comparatively, nearly doubling both cases and deaths.
