Three Incidents: ACCPD Seeks Community Help

Athens-Clarke County Police Department

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department is seeking help from members of the community regarding three separate incidents.  

Investigators are probing an armed robbery attempt at the Golden Pantry located at 2350 West Broad Street. According to a media release from the department, shortly before 10 pm on Sunday, August 30, a man entered the store, pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded he open the cash register. The clerk refused and the suspect fled. The clerk chased the suspect, injuring his leg in the process.

The department is also investigating a shooting incident that happened on August 29th in the 700 block of Spring Valley Road. Officers responding to the scene at 10:22 pm found a male victim who had been shot in the hip. The victim stated he and several other people were outside when they heard gunshots. They all ran, but one of the shots hit him in the hip. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The owner of Food Mart found that lottery tickets, cigarettes, and personal information had been stolen.

Police are also investigating a burglary at the Food Mart on Macon Highway. According to a department release, the owner told police that when he unlocked his business on Thursday morning, August 27th, he discovered lottery tickets, multiple packs of cigarettes, and business information had been stolen.  

The burglary happened around 2:30 that morning.
