UGA Football Players Show Support

David Seibert

UGA Football players stood together last night to show their support for racial justice

Last night members of the UGA Football team gathered in front of the Holmes-Hunter Academic Building to hear Hunter Holmes Jr. speak.

His father Hunter Holmes, who the building was named after, and one of the first Black students to enroll at UGA.

Dressed in their Black game jerseys, the players and head coach Kirby Smart heard the story of Holmes and the injustice he faced. They also spoke about the continued racial injustice seen in the United States.

Holmes integrated the University alongside Charlayne Hunter in January of 1961, before becoming the first Black student to attend the Emory University School of Medicine.
