Deadline to Fill Out Census This Week

Valley Morning Star

The deadline to respond to the 2020 Census is this week. Residents have until Wednesday, September 30th to participate. More than $675 billion in federal funds will be allocated to communities across the country every year for the next decade, based on those results.

Last week, Governor Kemp urged Georgians to participate since Georgia’s share of those billions is dependent on Census figures.

“For healthcare, food, education, and roads. Our rural assistant programs receive critical resources based on response rates, and the peach state's congressional representation in Washington is directly tied to how many Georgians take part in the Census."

Tim Johnson is Co-Chair of the Census Complete Count Committee in Athens. He says your information is safe with the Census.

“There's actually now federal law and if an employee of the Census ever discloses any information about any individual respondent to the census to anybody else, even the White House or another federal agency, they are subject to a $250,000 fine for each violation and time in prison.”

There are four ways of participating: online at My2020Census.gov, mailing back the paper form received in the mail, answering the door to in-person Census takers, and by calling 1-844-330-2020 to participate by phone.
